Important Changes to the November 2024 Examination Session
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is implementing key changes to the upcoming November 2024 examination session to ensure the highest standards of academic integrity and fairness. These updates underscore our commitment to providing a secure and equitable assessment environment for all students.
Minimum Supervision Period
A minimum supervision period of two hours will now be enforced for all exams. This means that even if a student’s exam is scheduled for just one hour, they will still be required to remain under supervision for a minimum of two hours. Whether in the exam hall or another designated supervision area within the school, this measure is designed to uphold the integrity of the examination process.
Adjustments to Exam Start Times
To further safeguard against potential time zone-related cheating, the IB will adjust the start times of exams in specific schools. By staggering exam start times, we aim to prevent students in earlier time zones from sharing exam content with those in later time zones, thereby maintaining a fair testing environment globally.
Mandatory Clearing of Calculator Memories
In line with our commitment to the fair use of technology, schools will now be required to clear the memory of all Graphical Display Calculators (GDCs) after each exam. While the IB continues to support the use of technology in assessments, this new procedure will help schools ensure that calculators are used appropriately and that no pre-stored data is retained for subsequent exams.
These changes reflect the IB’s ongoing dedication to providing a fair and secure examination process for all students, recognizing the hard work they have put into their studies throughout the year.
