Overview: IBDP M23 Examination Changes
The IB has made adaptations to help address the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, including adjustments to learning, teaching, and assessment, which have been extended to examinations in 2022.
What are the IB changes for May 2023?
In 2023, the IB intends that the distribution of grades awarded to return close to those of May 2019. With this in mind, grade boundary setting will take further disruptions into account and grade boundaries for May 2023 may not necessarily be the same as those of May 2019.
What will IB Exams be like this year?
In 2023, students undertaking the DP, CP, and MYP will complete the full suite of assessments, as outlined in programme and subject guides on the programme resource centre. The non-exam route that was offered in 2020, 2021, and 2022 will not be offered for 2023 IB Exams.
Further recently, the IB announced that there will be three time zones to conduct M23 examinations. These exam zones will be based on the time zones of the country of your school:
-
Exam Zone A: UTC +12 to UTC +3.5
-
Exam Zone B: UTC +3 to UTC +0
-
Exam Zone C: UTC 1 to UTC 10
Nonetheless, the IB has also mentioned that if a sudden need develops, modifications for exams and grading may be made for 2023. Your teacher will most likely estimate your IB exam score based on your other class marks and send that information to IB, who will then issue a final score, if a non-exam route to diploma is once again offered.
What will changes in IB Exam pattern?
As IB is reverting to the pre-COVID format, which was administered to all IB students each year prior to the pandemic.
