Getting Ready for the IBDP May 2023 Exam Sessions

The IB is aware that throughout the past two years, there have been disruptions in education for students all across the world as a result of the pandemic. Despite the difficulties they have encountered, the IB is committed to helping these students move on to the next stage of their study. It is projected that almost all of our students will be able to sit for exams in May 2023.

Post Pandemic IB Diploma Programme

Students enrolled in the Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP), and Career-related Programme (CP) in 2023 will finish all exams and receive scores based on all of the components they have completed for each topic. The IB will continue to assist students by making adjustments to the process of establishing grade boundaries that take the pandemic's effects into account when distributing results.

In order to address student needs and prepare DP, CP, and MYP students for the complete slate of tests in 2023, the IB will collaborate with schools.

Back to the patterns of May 2019

The IB also wants the distribution of marks given for our certifications in 2023 to be quite similar to that of May 2019. It is still possible that the disruption to learning will have some effect on students' exam performance in 2023. Grade boundaries will be established in May 2023 taking into consideration additional interruptions, therefore they might not be the same as those in May 2019.

Teams from the IB will collaborate closely with schools to deliver ongoing updates, assistance, materials, and chances for questions and feedback.

IB Diploma Programme Examination Schedule

Exams are usually conducted in two sessions.

  • There will be morning session examinations that must start after 07:00 hours and finish by 13:00 hours local time.

  • Afternoon examination sessions must start after 12 noon and finish by 18:00 hours local time. 

May 2023 Examinations will be conducted in three Exam Zones A, B and C.
