Unbeatable advantage of CAS in Experiential Learning
The CAS requirement reflects a firm belief in the value of experiential learning outside of the classroom. Participation in artistic projects, athletics, and community service enables young people to share their energies and specific abilities within teams, develop awareness and care for others, and to cooperate peacefully (especially as part of their CAS project).
CAS's Objectives
The CAS requirement's goals are to help students develop:
An understanding that education is about more than just learning;
-
An eagerness to learn and a desire to know;
-
New information, skills, and ethical duties for the rest of one's life as a result of better awareness of others within and outside one's social context;
-
An appreciation for their strengths as well as the abilities of others;
-
A global understanding of humanitarian issues;
Blen has put together a quick overview of the advantages of experiential learning.
1. Reflection Opportunity
Reflection is a critical component of experiential learning. After the student has immersed themselves in an experience, the act of reflecting using analytical skills will ensure a better understanding and long-term recollection.
Reflecting does not have to be difficult, but it is critical to take the time to reflect before, during, and after a specific activity.
It has been demonstrated that students think more when they reflect and ask the right questions. When compared to reading the answer in the textbook, this results in better information retention.
2. Getting Ready for the "Real World"
"Why do I need to learn this?" students frequently ask. I'm not going to use any of it after I graduate from high school!" It is the responsibility of schools and teachers to help students realize that English Literature, Chemistry, and Economics are not as useless as they may believe.
Incorporate the UN Sustainable Development Goals into your curriculum (for example, in your Biology class) and demonstrate how oil spillage affects Life under Water (Goal 14) during a live simulation.
It is our responsibility as educators to make learning enjoyable so that future students can become active members of society and positively influence the direction of the world.
3. Improving Knowledge Retention
The significance of experiencing emotions while learning from experience has been identified as a critical factor in accelerating and retaining knowledge. It is all about encouraging students to actively participate in the experience. Practical activities necessitate practice, problem-solving, and decision-making.
Learning accelerates and retention improves as student engagement increases through these processes. As a result, attitudes toward the concept of learning become more positive.
